Starting a running program is a great thing to do for physical and mental health. Here's why!

Everyone is familiar with seeing a runner on the streets, breathing heavily, perhaps listening to music, in their own world, doing their own thing. Running has experienced a huge boom in popularity in the 21st Century, largely due to the huge benefits one can reap by starting a running program and thinking about running health.

Losing Weight with Running

It's possible to use running as a tool for losing weight. Running increases one's heart rate, burns calories and releases endorphins, which all contribute to burning fat and losing weight. All one really has to do to take advantage of the running health benefit is to start a running program.

Another valid point is that to lose weight with running, the person should be patient. There is no way to lose weight rapidly that is also healthful, so with that in mind, creating and maintaining a running program that is appropriate for one's fitness level will be the best way to lose weight.

Women's Running

Many gyms around the world have begun the practice of creating women-only rooms. This is because gyms can be an intimidating place for women starting a workout program. One of the wonderful things about running is that anyone can do it by themselves. This means that women can avoid the potentially intimidating gym environment and gain running health by themselves. All one needs is a pair of shoes!

Women's running is gaining popularity with support from running clubs and stores, which organize exclusive running groups for women. This is a great way to gain fitness, have fun and meet new people - all great advantages of running.

Running for Mental Health

Meditation is great for the body. Another one of the health benefits of running is that runners often end up in a semi-meditative state when out on a run. The mind will calm itself as the body exerts itself, allowing the runner to enjoy peaceful thoughts. This can be great way to reduce stress.

Charity Running

Finally, no other sport or hobby is as successful for raising money for good causes. If anyone is looking to help contribute to a good cause, or a particular charity, chances are that there will be a run for that charity. For example, in Canada, during October, every major city will put on a CIBC Run for the Cure, in support of Breast Cancer awareness and research.

Charity running is yet another benefit of running, can be a great way to meet new people, get involved in the community and simply do a good thing for one's fellow humans.
